New Board Member Appointed to Canada Lands Company Board of Directors
Grant B. Walsh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Canada Lands Company, a national real estate company, is pleased to confirm the Government of Canada’s appointment of Barbara Sutherland to the company’s Board of Directors for a four-year term.
Ms. Sutherland brings more than 25 years of experience in real estate and corporate law to the Canada Lands Company Board. Ms. Sutherland is currently Director, Real Estate Business and Legal Counsel for Home Hardware Stores Limited. In the past she has served as a lawyer in the Real Estate department at the law firm McMillan Binch. Ms. Sutherland also provided commercial leasing and legal expertise on the Rim Park Judicial Inquiry team.
“The addition of Ms. Sutherland strengthens our board as we continue to work in the best interest of the company, the Government of Canada and Canadians”, said Chairman, Grant B. Walsh. The company’s Board of Directors comprises of eight members representing every region of Canada.
Since its inception in 1995, Canada Lands Company has contributed over $1-billion to the Government of Canada as payment for properties, elimination of carrying costs, payment of applicable taxes and declaration of dividends.
Canada Lands Company Limited is a self-financing federal Crown corporation that optimizes the economic and community value obtained from surplus properties which are no longer required by its sole shareholder, the Government of Canada. It is also a demonstrated leader in tourism management with its operations of the CN Tower, the Montréal Science Centre, and the Old Port of Montréal.
