INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONSULTATION PROCESS ON THE FUTURE OF THE OLD PORT OF MONTREAL
Montréal, January 19, 2016 – The Old Port of Montréal Corporation (OPMC) is pleased to invite Montréalers to take part in the first public consultation activity on the future of the Old Port of Montréal, including the Pointe-du-Moulin site and its Silo no. 5. This activity will be held at 7 p.m. on January 28, at the Montréal Science Centre located at 2 rue de la Commune Ouest. In addition to participating in an ideas fair on improvements that could be made to the site, participants will get to share their thoughts on various items being considered. Discussions will take place in a plenary fashion and in sub-groups. As space is limited, we invite those interested to sign up online at planoldport.com or by telephone at 514-559-7021.
The newly created website planoldport.com will make consulting the public on various aspects of the Old Port of Montréal revitalization project possible throughout the entire planning process. Individuals interested in following and taking part in this important reflection are invited to check it out regularly. They can also sign up to a mailing list for updates on upcoming developments and activities. It will also include an abundance of information about the Old Port.
Advisory Committee
As part of its public consultation process, OPMC created an advisory committee of thirteen citizens who are highly involved in their community. Through their role in the community and their professional affiliations, they will advise OPMC throughout the consultation process. Ms. Marie Lavigne, Founding Member of the Quartier des spectacles Partnership and former President and CEO of Société de la Place des Arts, and Ms. Marie Lessard, Urbanist and Honorary Professor at Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Planning, have agreed to act as co-chairs on the committee. Their respective management and planning experiences on urban projects are major assets for the committee. The complete list of members is available atplanoldport.com.
About the public consultations
By 2017, the public consultations will lead to a master plan for the revitalization of the Old Port of Montréal, including the Pointe-du-Moulin site and its Silo no. 5. In view of the upcoming celebrations of Canada’s 150th anniversary and Montréal’s 375th, OPMC wants to create an innovative renewal in terms of urban design, landscape and sustainability for Montréalers.
